This traditional summer airshow by Finnish Air Force took place for the 62nd time.
The history of the Midnight Sun Airshow started 1945 when Finnish Air Force Training Air
Wing?s (Lentosotakoulu) personnel organized first midsummer airshow, which gathered
6267 spectators. Training Air Wing?s instructors performed formation flying and all major
Finnish Air Force types were flown, the tradition was born. Training Air Wing?s
midsummer airshow grew, and became Midnight Sun Airshow and festival. Annual event,
every June, gathers now many foreign participants and some 15 000 spectators. The
airshow starts 7 p.m. and lasts close to midnight when the last display is flown. It is great
experience for spectators and visiting aircrews to display under midnight sun.
Midsummer and its Midsummer Eve is the most important festival in Finland and the whole
country is basically closed that weekend when everyone is celebrating midsummer. This in
mind Midsummer Festival at Kauhava AB has many top class music performers playing in
aircraft hangars in turns with flying and other activities.
